POF PATCHCORD

INTCERA has a long history of making plastic optic fiber cable assemblies in all configurations and lengths. All of our plastic optic fiber cable assemblies are tested to ensure quality and performance that meet industry standards.
POF is similar to glass fiber and consists of a core surrounded by cladding which contains fluorinated materials to reduce attenuation. The plastic fiber transmits light which is rapidly switched on and off sending a digital signal to communicate with a fiber optic receiver. POF can deliver data at speeds up to 10 Gbps and has similar properties to copper and glass the two other methods of physically linking sources to transfer and communicate data.
The principal advantages of POF over glass are lower installation and maintenance costs, potentially as much as 50% less and the need for less technical expertise to develop and maintain it. POF is more flexible and able to withstand a bend radius of up to 20mm with no change in transmission.
This property makes it easier to install through walls, a distinct advantage in the networking market. In addition, POF does not carry an electromagnetic charge so it is ideal for use in special applications such as medical equipment where magnetic interference can cause failure of critical devices and jeopardize patient care.
